Gold Price Today
The live gold spot price is the global benchmark for one troy ounce of pure gold, and it is shown below updated in real time, along with the price per gram and every other common weight. Spot is what one ounce of fine gold trades for between large dealers right now; it is the number every karat calculation and every dealer offer starts from.

What the gold spot price means
Spot is the price of immediate delivery of one troy ounce (31.1034768 grams) of 99.9% pure gold. It moves continuously through the trading day as markets in London, New York, and Asia react to the dollar, interest rates, and demand. Because it is quoted for pure metal per troy ounce, you convert it to a per-gram figure by dividing by 31.1034768. At the 2026-07-22 snapshot price of $4,136.30 per troy ounce, that is about $132.99 per gram of pure gold. The board above shows the live number, which will differ.
Gold purity: what each karat is worth
Almost no gold jewelry is pure. Karat measures how much of an item is gold, out of 24 parts. 14k gold is 14 parts gold to 10 parts other metal, so it is 58.3% gold by weight. The table below stamps the value of a single gram at each karat, using the fixed 2026-07-22 snapshot so the math stays reproducible. Multiply by your item's gram weight to estimate its melt value, or use the live calculator for the current price.
| Karat | Purity (gold by weight) | Value of 1 gram |
|---|---|---|
| 24k | 99.9% | $132.85 |
| 22k | 91.7% | $121.90 |
| 18k | 75.0% | $99.74 |
| 14k | 58.3% | $77.57 |
| 10k | 41.7% | $55.41 |
Snapshot, 2026-07-22, at $4,136.30 per troy ounce ($132.99 per gram of pure gold). The 24k row uses 99.9% fine gold, the same purity the calculator applies to 24k. Live prices above will differ.
Spot vs. what jewelers and dealers pay
Spot is a wholesale reference, not a checkout price. When you sell scrap or jewelry, a buyer pays a percentage of the melt value, typically 60% to 90%, keeping the rest to cover refining, testing, and profit. When you buy coins or bullion, you pay spot plus a premium for fabrication and the dealer's margin. Neither direction is a rip-off on its own; it is simply how a wholesale benchmark turns into a real transaction. Always confirm a live quote with the dealer before you sell.
